Storm Ali started to peak across Helensburgh and the Rosneath Peninsula this morning, with winds expected to gust up to 75mph.
Widespread disruption is expected across the transport network, and trains from Helensburgh Central are cancelled because of overhead line damage at Patrick.
Several roads have been closed because of fallen trees, including the B833 Between Rosneath and Kilcreggan
The Gourock to Kilcreggan ferry service was operating earlier today but the 10.29 arrival at Kilcreggan pier was aborted by the MV Chieftain.
The Met Office has issued an amber warning and has warned residents to expect:
- Flying debris is likely and could lead to Injuries or danger to life
- Some damage to buildings is likely, such as tiles blown from roofs or damage through falling trees and branches breaking
- Longer journey times and cancellations likely, as road, rail, air and ferry services affected with some roads and bridges closed
- Power cuts with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
- Injuries and danger to life from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties
