Kilcreggan had its first sight of its new ferry today, as the MV Chieftain called at the pier.

The Clyde Marine vessel – formerly the Seabus – was conducting berthing tests in advance of regular sailings starting tomorrow morning (Monday).

And villagers who went to the end of the pier saw that their would be familiar faces in the crew – two of the skippers spent several years working for Clydelink on the Kilcreggan route.

Meanwhile villagers have launched a campaign to publicise Kilcreggan, maximising the impact of the new, more reliable ferry service.

Businesses have suffered in recent years with frequent cancellations affecting shops, the pub and the cafe.

Now a Visit Kilcreggan Facebook page has been set up, with a website to follow.

The aim is for it to be a ‘one-stop shop’ for local information: “The plan is to help put Kilcreggan back on the tourist map in a big way – connecting visitors with everything about or beautiful village and the surrounding area.”

  1. Thanks for the support for our ‘Visit Kilcreggan’ initiative. Our website (www.visitkilcreggan.com) will be up and running in a week or two and we are aiming to work closely with all local businesses, service providers, commercial enterprises and the local authority, to re-focus on attracting visitors back to our beautiful peninsula. The appointment of Clyde Mariine as the Ferry Operator is a vital part of the process and we are delighted to have them back!
