A civil servant at Faslane has braved the shave to raise cash for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Steve Styles, who works in the programme support office, was joined by colleagues in HM Naval Base Clyde’s Lomond Building on Tuesday as he went under the razor courtesy of Josef from Josef’s Hair Design in Helensburgh.

“Lots of people I’ve known over the years have experienced cancer,” said Steve: “Some have survived and sadly others did not.

“When I heard about Macmillan’s latest campaign I wanted to help so I thought I’d just go for it!”

Colleagues gave Steve a round of applause as the last of his locks came off, only to end up on the office floor.

“The support I’ve had from my family and colleagues has been great,” continued Steve. “The amount raised is over the £200 mark so far, although some in the office have christened me Baldielocks!”

Macmillan’s Brave the Shave campaign aims to have participants sponsored to shave their heads in support of those who have lost their hair enduring cancer treatment.

More than 7,050 people have ‘braved the shave’ this year, raising over £906,800 so far.

The money raised can be used for anything from providing a Macmillan Grant that helps a person living with cancer heat their home, to funding a Macmillan nurse for a week, helping people living with cancer and their families.
