Carnival of arts coming to Cove

A new carnival of arts and music is coming to the Rosneath Peninsula in October.

Cove Carnival will see five days of events ranging from a performance by Scottish Opera to a celebration of architecture.

Sponsored by Garelochhead Coaches, the events are being organised by Rosneath Peninsula West Community Development Trust and will be in Cove Burgh Hall unless otherwise stated.

The opening events will be performances by the Peninsula Ukulele Band at Rosneath and Kilcreggan primary schools on Friday October 6.

That evening there will be a McGinn Dinner – a celebration (with stovies) of Scottish folksinger Matt McGinn, sponsored by the Kilcreggan Hotel.

On Saturday October 7, the burgh hall will host a children’s film show, as well as a Brass Monkeys Big Dance, sponsored by Kilcreggan Garage.

Then on the Sunday Allander Jazz will perform a lunchtime show, sponsored by Plugit Decorative Wood.

In Cove Sailing Club on the Sunday Francis Cadell’s painting of Cove Pier will be on display, with a talk about this classic work by a Scottish colourist, depicting a steamer on Loch Long.

Catherine Wheels Theatre will be staging children’s show The Little Gentleman on the Monday.

And there will also be a celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth architect Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson, who designed several historic buildings on the peninsula.

Finally, on Tuesday October 10 Scottish Opera will visit Cove, with a reception in Knockderry House Hotel followed by a ‘highlights’ performance in the burgh hall, sponsored by the Knockderry House Hotel.

Details of ticket sales will be announced nearer the time.
