Faslane families’ Christmas gift for children’s hospital

Generous naval families from have helped to bring some Christmas cheer to kids at The Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow.

The families – who all have loved ones serving at Faslane – decided to cancel the Christmas cards this year and use the money to buy toys for children spending the festive season on the hospital’s Schiehallion Oncology Ward instead.

Handing over the toys on behalf of the naval families this week was Catherine Wynne, whose daughter, Madeline, finished two years of chemotherapy treatment in May for a spinal cord tumour and is currently doing well.

“Hopefully this will help put smiles back onto the children’s faces and make their long and hard treatment more bearable,” said Catherine, pictured (centre) the gifts to nurses.

This will be the second year the local naval families have supported the ward, ensuring brave children get to choose a toy from the “Fairy Box” after undergoing upsetting procedures.
