Argyll and Bute bin collection details for holidays revealed

Household bins will be collected a day later than usual over the Christmas and New Year, Argyll and Bute Council has announced.

Cutbacks in wheelie bin collections were brought in this autumn, initially causing confusion for many residents as they struggled to decipher a calendar with six different colour codes.

This week the council confirmed the arrangements for ‘festive’ collections for the Helensburgh and Lomond area.

Chair of the local area committee, Gary Mulvaney, said: “Over the festive period, due to public holidays, we tend to have a different timetable, meaning bins will be collected a day later – if your collection day is a Monday, your bin will be collected on a Tuesday, Tuesday’s collection on Wednesday and so on.

“If you are due for a Friday collection, this will happen on the Saturday. This is both between Christmas and New Year and the week after New Year.

“If your bin doesn’t get collected on the day you expect you should leave it out the next day.”

He added that there had been a big increase in food recycling since the changes.
