New timetable confirms cutbacks for Helensburgh trains

Timetable

Timetables for the reduced train service between Helensburgh Central and Glasgow have now been released by Scotrail.

The company announced in June that the ‘temporary’ timetable which is currently in force because of work at a tunnel at Queen Street station would effectively be made permanent once the work is complete on August 8.

This means that the route – which carries 800,000 people a year according to a recent study – will no longer have limited stop express services at rush hours.

It represent the second cut in services in this line in the last two years.

Morning trains will leave Helensburgh Central at 06.56, 07.56, 08.26, 08.53 and 09.26, with peak hour return journeys leaving Queen Street at 17.01 and 17.31.

Scotrail say the new timetable will be ‘more robust and reliable’, but the current timetable has seen trains far busier than usual – and from next week the number of carriages is likely to be cut as well.

  1. So to avoid a peak fare you have to wait another 16 mins before leaving Helensburgh? That’ll make them a bit more cash. And for most people there’ll be a longer wait for a train home after they finish work at 5. Nice work Scotrail!
