News in brief: KIlcreggan roadworks delayed, appeal for sporting heroes

Wet weather forced the delay of roadworks scheduled for Cove and Kilcreggan yesterday (Sunday).

A spokesperson for Argyll and Bute Council said the surface dressing work was weather dependant ‘so the dates are movable depending on the forecast’.

Signs warning drivers against parking appeared along the B833 on Saturday but the dates were subsequently altered.

Surface dressing work was carried out in parts of central Helensburgh over the weekend, including Clyde Street, Sinclair Street and King Street.

Sportscotland and the council are encouraging people to nominate their local sporting heroes for this year’s Argyll and Bute Sports Awards.

Policy lead for community and culture, Robin Currie said: “This is a great opportunity for people to nominate someone involved in sport who they feel should be recognised for their effort.

“The awards pay tribute to people who go above and beyond the call of duty to make their sport a success and I would encourage as many people as possible to make a nomination.”

All nominations need to be submitted by Friday September 2.

The nomination form can be completed online at www.argyll-bute.gov.uk/sportsawards or emailed to activeschools@argyll-bute.gov.uk
