UPDATE: at 1.50pm Traffic Scotland said the A82 had reopened in both directions but traffic was ‘very slow’.

The A82 on Loch Lomondside is currently closed after an accident – with traffic being diverted via Helensburgh town centre.

But the A814 in Helensburgh remain closed because of a dangerous building, with diversions already causing delays for drivers even before today’s accident.

Traffic Scotland say the A82 was closed between Arden and Stoneymollan roundabouts at 12 noon because of a serious accident involving two cars.

A 15-mile diversion will see all the traffic being sent through Helensburgh town centre, where drivers face gridlock because the A814 closure means traffic is diverted again.

A spokesman for Argyll and Bute Council said yesterday that there was no date fixed for when the A814 would reopen: “The road is currently closed and will remain so until such time as the building is made safe.

“We appreciate that this is inconvenient, however, we have to take this action to ensure the safety of the public.”
