No date yet for Helensburgh pier to be open again

Helensburgh’s pier is still closed to the public, despite hopes that it would have re-opened last month.

Four weeks ago Argyll and Bute Council said the pier ‘should re-open soon’ and that it was hoped to have ‘trip factors’ removed by Easter.

But barriers are still in place and today (April 11) the council could not give a date for when they would be removed.

A spokesman said: “We have instructed a contractor to begin work and are waiting on their timetable.

“We’ll give an updated timescale in due course.”

The paddle steamer Waverley’s first visit to Helensburgh this year is due on Saturday May 28.
