Helensburgh’s pier should be re-opened soon, Argyll and Bute Council has said.

The assurance was given this week, with barriers still blocking off the end of the pier as the start of the tourist season draws near.

A council spokesperson said: “We are currently looking to commission the minor work to remove trip factors.

“We would hope to have the pier re-opened by Easter weekend.”

The paddle steamer Waverley’s first visit to Helensburgh this year is due on Saturday May 28 – the historic vessel will be celebrating the 70th anniversary of her launch.

    • A&BC are a party to SPT and the last time dredging was discussed it was in the context of the council paying it, or rather not paying for it. In any case I wouldn’t trust SPT to run a whelk stall, they’ve demonstrated repeatedly and on at least two occasions actually said that they don’t care about the ferry service and would rather not bother as the passengers are too vocal and complain too much.
