Police have issued a ‘travel with caution’ warning for all of Scotland today (Wednesday), as Storm Frank causes havoc across the country.

Roads have been closed by flooding and landslides, with public transport also severely disrupted.

A Met Office amber warning of heavy raining is in force until 3pm – problems locally currently include:

  • Scotrail has suspended trains from Helensburgh Central, saying that heavy flooding has closed the line at Cardross.
  • The A814 road in Cardross is also flooded, meaning that there are o replacement buses for the hundreds of commuters affected.
  • Flooding is also affecting the A82 at Renton
  • The A83 at Rest and Be Thankful has been closed by a landslide

The 316 bus service to Coulport is currently running although it may be subject to delays, while the Kilcreggan to Gourock ferry is now running although on amber alert – sailings before 9am were suspended. Trains from Gourock are not running however.

Winds were expected to reach peak gusts of up to 60mph overnight but have now subsided slightly – further stormy weather is expected for the next 48 hours however.

Police Scotland have urged all drivers to use extra caution, adding: “If you are travelling you should ensure you and your vehicle are adequately prepared for the conditions, making sure you have sufficient fuel and supplies such as warm clothing, food and water in the event you are delayed for several days.

“Charge your mobile phone and plan your route, as well as alternative routes.”
