A body is reported to have been recovered in the search for Cove botanist Jamie Taggart, who disappeared in Vietnam two years ago.

There is no formal identification available as yet, but family members have said on social media that Jamie has been found.

A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesman said today: “We are in contact with local authorities in Vietnam regarding Jamie Taggart.

“This is a very difficult time for his family, and we will remain in close contact with them.”

Jamie, of the award-winning Linn Gardens, disappeared in November 2013 while on a plant-hunting trip in a remote, mountainous area of northern Vietnam.

The community raised thousands of pounds to help fund searches for the 41 year-old, a retained firefighter, while actor Hugh Grant, whose family has connections to the Linn, made a substantial donation.

Earlier this year his mother Jill Mary visited Vietnam and joined local tribespeople and police in searches, but returned ‘disheartened’ after combing formidable terrain.

Jamie’s passport and rucksack were found in his room at a guest house in Sa Pa after he disappeared in November 2013.

He was last seen on a motorcycle taxi in the Hoang Lien national park.
