Work has begun on the £1.4m new Artist Centre at Cove Park, which is due to be complete in April 2016.
The project is funded by Creative Scotland and several trusts and individuals, including major awards from the Robertson and Monument trusts.
Designed by architects Cameron Webster and built by Clark Contracts, it will host an expanding programme of artist residencies public and events.
The build includes two accommodation units and two studios, as well as spaces for workshops and performances and communal space for visitors.
Seona Reid, the chair of Cove Park’s board, said: “This is an exciting time for Cove Park.
The centre will offer facilities for artists and the public that will enhance our growing international reputation as a centre of excellence for the arts.”
Artists from all disciplines have stayed at Cove Park’s dramatic site above Loch Long, ranging from Margaret Attwood, Tom Morris and Abraham Cruzevillegas to those just starting their career.
Cruzevillegas, recipient of the Hyundai Commission at Tate Turbine Hall, said: “Cove Park’s residency programme has been crucial as it provided me not only with lots of freedom in terms of the development of my practice, but also an immense experience of learning and sharing with others.”
