News in brief: Beer festival, dog owners may be named and shamed, heritage talks

The 14th Cove and Kilcreggan Real Ale Festival will be held this weekend, with organisers promising ‘an absolute treat’.

A variety of pale, amber and brown ales spanning every part of the UK will be served up at Cove Burgh Hall from 12 noon this Saturday (September 26).

The Midgierakers, a five-piece traditional acoustic band from Glasgow, will make their local debut, and food will include curry, chili and beef goulash – all proceeds will go to the burgh hall, which is run by the community.

Dog owners who don’t clean up after their pets could be ‘named and shamed’ in newspaper adverts.

The move to reduce dog fouling will be considered by Argyll and Bute Council on Thursday.

Melissa Simpson will discuss the past, present and future of Hermitage Park in the first of Helensburgh Heritage Society’s winter talks, on Wednesday September 30.

Other speakers in the monthly meetings will include Fraser Noble of boatbuilders McGruers and Sir Malcolm Colquhoun of Luss – details are available on the trust’s website.
