A chance to bombard your councillor? It’s all for a good cause

Councillors of various political hues could end up red, blue or a whole variety of colours next month.Colour Canter Logo

Local politicians have bravely agreed to take part in the Colour Canter being held to raise funds for the restoration of Craigrownie Park in Cove.

Voters will have the chance to show their ‘support’ by buying coloured powder with which to bombard the runners on a route from Helensburgh pier to Kidston Park and back.

All funds raised will go towards the £100,000 project to give Cove’s run-down park a complete makeover – after last month’s auction and dance organised by Rosneath Peninsula West Community Development Trust, the campaign is now just £13,000 short of its target.

Local firms have stepped up to man the four ‘bomb zones’ along the route, where participants will be ambushed by ‘bombers with different shades of coloured powder.Colour Plan

Staff from Waitrose, the Co-op, Tesco, and Helensburgh Toyota will be manning the bomb zones with orders to ensure that no-one escapes a good colouring.

The coloured powder is made from corn starch, which is EN71 compliant. It is suitable for cosmetics and is safe and biodegradable.

Entrants will receive a free t-shirt, their race number, which must be worn at the run, and a sponsorship form to assist in raising funds for the play park.

There will be a prize for the runner who raises most sponsorship money.

Coloured minibags and eyeglasses will be available for purchase at the 12 o’clock start, while a music and Zumba warm-up will start from 10am.

There is no age restriction but no animals are allowed.

The entry form is below – cheques should be posted to Helensburgh Colour Canter, Craig Ailey, South Ailey Road, Cove, Argyll G84 0PL.
