Plans to mark the 150th anniversary of the Burgh of Cove and Kilcreggan have been scaled down because of ‘a lack of interest’.

A celebratory weekend had been planned, including a civic reception, community lunch and dance.

This was originally scheduled for June but then delayed, and this week Cove and Kilcreggan community councillors decided that because of a lack of enthusiasm they would just put a plaque instead.

The proceeds from a fund-raising race night held at the Creggans pub will be used for this, with any surplus being given to the redevelopment of Craigrownie Park in Cove.

The Burgh of Cove and Kilcreggan was founded on November 9, 1865, when a group of residents took advantage of the Burghs of Scotland and General Police Improvement Act.

Thought to be the smallest burgh in Scotland, it thrived as a model of very local government until 1975, when it became part of Dumbarton District Council, and later Argyll and Bute.
