Awards will honour Argyll and Bute’s best new designs

The latest awards to recognise new buildings with the best designs in Argyll and Bute has been launched.

Developments which have been completed in the last three years three years are eligible for the council’s Sustainable Design Awards.

Policy lead for planning and regulatory services David Kinniburgh, encouraged people to enter, saying: ‘’These awards give people a tremendous opportunity to have their work professionally endorsed by the council’s planning team.

‘’Our planning service works to support sustainable economic growth, making things happen and encouraging exceptional developments.

‘’These awards will celebrate great design and really raise awareness of what is exceptional.”

The awards are open to anyone, from community groups to developers.

The deadline for entries is Wednesday 30th September 30. To enter go to the council website for guidance notes and an entry form.

Shortlisting will take place in October, with site visits from the judging panel expected later that month and winners and honourable mentions set to be announced at an awards ceremony in January 2016.’

  • There are four categories:
  • Small scale residential developments
  • Larger scale housing projects
  • Commercial/community/industrial (called non-residential) buildings
  • Refurbishments of existing buildings

The 2015 awards will consider completed projects that have a Building (Scotland) Act 2003 Completion Certificate dated between January 1 2012 and June 30 2015.

Previous awards have highlighted high quality developments which combine innovative design with superb environmental performance, and have included projects across the area, from small islands to mainland towns –details of the most recent winners are available here.
