The Guinness Pro 12 league champions winners took part in a pre-season session with a difference when a group of 32 – featuring a number of players who helped defeat Munster in May’s final – took up the invitation from 43 Commando Fleet Protection Group, based at Faslane.

The theme of the day aimed test the Commando ethos of courage, determination, unselfishness and cheerfulness in the face of adversity – values that the rugby players share with the Marines, albeit on different battlegrounds.

The day saw intense physical challenges as well as exercises requiring teamwork, problem solving and communication.

Colonel Jock Fraser, Commanding Officer of 43 Commando, said: ‘Training with Glasgow Warriors has been great fun for all the Marines involved.

“We share many of the same principles in training for our demanding roles, which require professional performance at the highest level.

“We wish Glasgow Warriors the best of luck in the coming season.”
