The Roller Magic Rink which was such a hit last year will be the centrepiece of the new events space in Colquhoun Square but a blast from the town’s seaside summer past will be found on the new esplanade where there will be trampolines.

Back in the Square children can take part in a mini tennis tournament, sponsored by Chris Bowman Fitness and after that SOS Fitness will be staging some fun and games and there will be a climbing wall for those who want to reach new heights.

There will be a wet sponge competition, coconut shy, fishing for ducks. History walks by Stewart Noble of Helensburgh Heritage Trust, plenty of live music, a mini-assault course and an emergency services corner near the pier.

Party Palz will be running their sand painting stall and there will be a number of children’s fairground rides and side shows both in the square and on the seafront. And throughout the day street entertainers from Conflux Theatre will be creating a buzz around the town centre.

A market featuring up to 50 stalls will be running in the Square on the Saturday from 10am until 4pm and it will features a wide range of stall holders offering amazing gifts and goodies as well as delicious hot street food.

The very popular Codona’s fairground rides for older customers will be in their usual spot at the pier and throughout the day there will be plenty of fantastic food on offer from a variety of stalls ranging from hog roast to wood fired pizza.

The Summer Festival is also being used as the official launch of the new look town centre and there will be a special treasure hunt featuring some of the new street art which has been created in the town.

The second day of the festival will feature the Helensburgh Bicentennial Pipeband Championships and Highland Dancing Competition at the Victoria Halls and Hermitage Park.

There will be the usual street parade to start and end the event and as well as the competitions there will be a wide range of stalls and side shows in the park and teas in the hall.

The Summer Festival is organised under the auspices of the Helensburgh and Lomond Chamber of Commerce and a spokesman said: “We are delighted with the way the festival is coming together and are looking forward to a weekend full of fun-packed activities and entertainment.

“This is a community event and we encourage all community groups to come forward with their ideas for events which can further enhance the programme.”
