A packed meeting heard a series of concerns about the change of contractor for the Kilcreggan-Gourock ferry on Tuesday night.
Over 70 villagers were at the community council meeting in Cove Burgh Hall to discuss SPT’s decision to give the contract to Clydelink.
Kilcreggan man Harry Cathcart, councillors and a representative of the Faslane and Coulport ferry users all spoke out against the change – it was claimed that the new boat would only have a draught of less than one metre, rather than 1.7 metres for the current Seabus, so far more cancellations because of poor weather were predicted.
There were also questions asked about the financial situation of the new company, and whether SPT had followed due diligence.
Community council chairman Nick Davies and other delegates will now join councillors meeting SPTR officials in Glasgow next week, and the authority will be contacted as a matter of urgency on Wednesday (February 15) in a bid to delay the final contract being signed before then.
