Re-opening event for Inveraray Pier

Inveraray’s historic pier was officially reopened today after being taken over the community.

The B–listed pier had been closed to the public for several years, but community group Inspire Inveraray bought it last July, following an award of £44,000 in Levelling Up money from the UK Government.

In perfect weather, today’s official ribbon-cutting ceremony drew a large crown, which saw the Mid Argyll Pipe Band perform.

Once fully restored, it is hoped that the pier will offer access to and from Loch Fyne, as well as boat trips and other water sports.

Boats crossing Loch Fyne will also once again be able to dock at Inveraray – the aim is for the pier to be fully accessible, free of charge and open for everyone to enjoy.

Inveraray’s original 100ft pier was built in 1762 but it was extended in 1806 and again in 1836.
