In an amazing feat of fund-raising, the volunteers working to restore Craigrownie Park in Cove have reached their target of £100,000 – in just over a year.

Hot on the heels of last week’s Helensburgh Colour Canter, which raised £3,500, came news that an application to the Moffat Trust had been successful, bringing £5,300 which takes the group just over its target.

“I am so thrilled and relieved,” said Roni Ferguson, one of the organisers.

“We did it in just over the year and so work can commence in spring as soon as the weather permits.”

It is planned to continue with the park as an ongoing project by setting up the Friends of Craigrownie Park.

Responsibility for maintenance and insurance of the park will lie with Argyll and Bute Council, but it is thought that extra funds will cover any damage, as well as any additional projects suggested by the community, such as a sensory garden.

The group’s planned craft fair in Cove Burgh Hall on Saturday October 24 will still go ahead – but probably with a very celebratory atmosphere!
