Gaelic song workshop in Helensburgh

Singer Kathleen MacInnes will hold a Gaelic song workshop in Helensburgh next month.

The event in Helensburgh Baptist Church on Sunday March 10 from 2pm to 4pm will be  open to all.

Originally from South Uist and now based in Glasgow, Kathleen (right)  is one of the biggest names in Gaelic music.

She regularly appears on TV and radio and featured in Ridley Scott’s blockbuster Robin Hood as well as the long-running Transatlantic Sessions.

Organiser Eilidh Steel, herself an accomplished and well-kent traditional musician, has received support funding from the Maoin nan Ealan Gàidhlig.

“Everyone is welcome,” said Eilidh. “You don’t need to know any Gaelic.

”This will be a group workshop, nobody will be expected to sing alone.”

More information and an event link can be found on the Helensburgh Traditional Music Session page on Facebook.

“There is no need to book, just turn up on the day,” said Eilidh.

“But if you are able to let me know on the Facebook event page, it would help to give me an idea of how many copies of the song words to print.”

Cost is ‘pay what you can’ – all ages are welcome, though under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
