Conic Hill closed after Storm Isha

Access to one of the most popular landmarks near Loch Lomond has been closed after damage during Storm Isha earlier this month.

High winds brought down trees which landed on the path up to Conic Hill, while other trees were uprooted.

A spokesperson for Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park Authority said: “The path will remain closed until Forestry and Land Scotland can assess the damage and clear the route.

“We will keep stakeholders and the public updated as timescales are confirmed and clearance works progress, including via our social media channels.”

The 1,180-feet hill from Balmaha is climbed by thousands of people every year – it features spectacular views of the loch and its islands.

A £900,000 project to renew the path up the hill started in 2022, with ‘heavily degraded’ timber steps being replaced by two metres-wide stone pitching.

Last month helicopters were used to bring in stone to build a new path.
