Kilcreggan ferry’s new timetable has higher prices and widespread changes

A new timetable for the Kilcreggan have been revealed by CalMac, with one daily journey cut and new timings for almost every other sailing.

From June onwards most sailings from Kilcreggan will be on the hour, with the majority leaving Gourock at 30 minutes past.

There will be 12 return sailings on weekdays – one few than currently, three less than in 2012, when SPT disastrously gave the contract to Clydelink.

Two return sailings will be cut on Saturdays.

The first ferry will leave Kilcreggan at 7am, four minutes earlier than in the current timetable, and although the last sailing from Gourock will still be at 6.18pm, changes to ScotRail’s timetable mean the last connecting train will leave Glasgow at 5.19pm, eight minutes earlier than currently.

The timetable also shows that ticket prices will increase by 8.7%, as announced last year.

Ten-journey tickets are not shown on the timetable – a CalMac spokesperson said these would still be available, although a price could not be confirmed.

The state-owned company wrote to Cove and Kilcreggan Community Council last year asking for its proposals to be shared with community and for feedback to be sought from stakeholders.

CalMac said the timetable had been amended to ‘allow a more uniform sequence throughout the day, making it easier to read and less confusing for customers’.

They said sailings had been cut: “To allow consistent times and maintain the afternoon break, which is essential for crew welfare, vessel maintenance and bunkering.”

  1. The bus from Couport to Helensburgh, leaves Couport on the hour
This new timetable, therefore, cuts off anyone coming from Couport direction without a car
If you happen to be on a ferry from Gourouk, also means you can’t get a bus home towards Couport direction
