Scholfield-Clarke Duo to perform in Helensburgh

A duo who met on their first day at the Junior Royal Conservatoire of Scotland 13 years ago will be performing in Helensburgh next month.

Saxophonist Richard Scholfield and pianist Iain Clarke will be performing in Helensburgh for the first time, as part of a short tour.

“We’re really looking forward to meeting new audiences on the tour, and introducing them to the saxophone’s fantastic, and often overlooked, original repertoire,” said Richard.

“Although many of the composers aren’t well known, and their music not often heard in concert, there is such a wealth of interesting and engaging music in the saxophone’s literature, and it’s always a joy to introduce listeners to something new, and show them what the instrument is capable of!

“Our concert has a ‘red, white and blue’ theme, with music by British, French and American composers, and it will be a bit of a journey through the life of the classical saxophone over the past 100 years – covering a very wide range of styles, from romantic and impressionist music all the way through to contemporary and minimalist works.”

The Scholfield-Clarke Duo will be premiering a new work, specially written for these concerts in February, named Another Life by John De Simone.

Works by Andre Jolivet, Fernande Decruck, Graham Fitkin, Paul Creston, William Grant Still, William Albright and Rudy Widoeft will also be performed at the February 11 concert in Helensburgh and Lomond Civic Centre.

Tickets costing £15, or £5 for students £5 and £1 for under-18s are available on Helensburgh Music Society’s website.
