Emergency planning event in Cove

Kilcreggan during Storm Diana in 2018

A community and household emergency planning event is being held in Cove next weekend.

The Rosneath Peninsula was effectively cut off by flooding during heavy rain in October, while many local roads were virtually impassable during. another storm just after Christmas.

Meanwhile Cove and Kilcreggan Community Council has been planning ways to improve resilience in the event of a fast onset emergency, such as Storm Arwen.

It would not cover nuclear emergencies at Faslane or Coulport, which are covered by major national plans, but major storms or flooding.

A drop-in event is being held in Cove Burgh Hall from 10am to 12.30 on Saturday, January 13.

The aim is to ensure people and businesses are prepared, with emergency plans and supplies, first aid kits, chargers and essential documents.

Organisers are also looking for people who can help by sharing skills, equipment or resources, as well as helping to build a ‘know your neighbour’ network from ‘Peaton to Portkil and creating a register of volunteers.

The National Centre for Resilience at Glasgow University has supported the project with a grant.

More information is available on the community council website.
