Still no decision on Rosneath’s library

A final decision has still not been made on the future of Rosneath’s library, almost four years after it last opened.

Libraries across Scotland were closed when Covid-19 lockdown restrictions were first imposed in March 2020.

Every other library operated by LiveArgyll, a charitable trust set up by Argyll and Bute Council in 2017, has since reopened.

But the library in Rosneath has remained closed, meaning books and computer access were only available at Helensburgh library – 13 miles away – or the volunteer-run Cove Community Library.

This week a spokesperson for LiveArgyll said the member of staff who covered Rosneath Library had left the area in March 2020, and the library area was then used by the village primary school to help with social distancing.

She added: “During this time many of the Rosneath customers have made use of Helensburgh library or our online digital provision on BorrowBox and PressReader.  Rosneath customers have continued with this, with no formal complaints.

“No final decision has been made about the future of Rosneath library but I’m sure the members of Rosneath Library will be consulted.”
