No news until new year on Helensburgh waterfront

An update on bidders vying to develop a key site on Helensburgh’s seafront will not be available until 2024, Argyll and Bute Council has confirmed.

Seven groups or companies – including the town’s community council – were shortlisted last September, with two being ruled out after expressing interest in the 1.38-acre site of the town’s previous swimming pool.

Offers for the vacant 1.38-acre site closed last Wednesday – none of the bidders have been formally named, but a council statement in September said those shortlisted would ‘boost jobs and community facilities in Helensburgh’.

Today a spokesperson said: “Following the closing date, our consultants will prepare a report on proposals received from interested parties.

“We expect to review this early in the New Year.

“We will then make a decision on when the report will go to committee.”

Nine international, national and local bidders submitted expressions of interest to develop the site, with proposals including community infrastructure, retail, hotel and food retail.
