Hermitage Primary given top marks by inspectors

Children at Hermitage Primary School in Helensburgh are happy and learn effectively, inspectors have said.

A report on the town’s largest primary school, which has 380 pupils, was published today by Education Scotland.

It states that attendance is above average while there have been no exclusions for six years.

Learning, teaching, assessment, raising attainment and achievement are all rated as very good.

And it adds that staff working very well together is a key strength of the school.

“Children are happy, kind and respectful,” says the report.

“They are enthusiastic learners and are proud of their school.

“Children demonstrate the school values very well and enjoy learning in a range of contexts, including outdoors.

“The highly-effective approaches to extend and enhance children’s learning experiences using digital technology.

“As children move through the school, they become increasingly skilled in using technology purposefully and effectively.

“Children make very good progress in their learning. They have a very wide range of opportunities in which to achieve and be successful.”

No more visits are planned in connection with the inspection, though an area of improvement was said to be that the school should continue to develop approaches for checking the progress of children across all curriculum areas.
