Helensburgh schoolgirl wins MSP’s Christmas card competition

A schoolgirl from Helensburgh has won MSP Jackie Baillie’s 2023 Christmas card competition.

The contest was open to all Primary 7 pupils in the Dumbarton constituency and Maisy Petro of St Joseph’s Primary School in Helensburgh won the overall competition.

Her design (above) will be sent to 5,000 people including pensioners across the Dumbarton, Vale of Leven, Helensburgh and Lomond areas in the lead-up to the festive period.

Cassie Beck, from Braehead Primary in Dumbarton, was in second place with Lucy Mullen, from Lennox Primary in Bonhill, in third place.

Their designs will feature on the back of the card which will be distributed.

Hundreds of designs were submitted to the MSP who, along with a judging panel, selected the winners.

Jackie Baillie said: “It is always a joy to look through the entries for my annual Christmas card competition. The effort that is put in by the pupils is fantastic.

“This year’s entries were varied and creative making them very difficult to judge due to the high standard. Maisy’s design captured the fun spirit of Christmas for me and I particularly liked the reindeer character she created.

“Thank you to all of the teachers and pupils for the hard work in producing such wonderful designs. I look forward to these being distributed across the area, providing some festive cheer.

“And a special thank you to Chivas Brothers for sponsoring the competition and to Morrisons for supplying the prizes.”
