Major water treatment project for Loch Lomondside

New housing and holiday lets planned for Loch Lomond means millions must be spent on new treatment works in Balmaha, say Scottish Water officials.

A community information event is being held next month to display plans to increase the treatment capacity of the existing works.

A Scottish Water spokesperson said: “Greater demand is expected to be placed on the waste water network in Balmaha, with increased growth in the area including new housing developments and holiday lets.

“The existing works must be upgraded to ensure it is fit for purpose and can deal with increased capacity on our waste water services in the area.”

A drop-in event will be held at The Oak Tree Inn in Balmaha from 3.30pm to 7.30pm on Wednesday November 15 so that residents and anyone else affected can speak to the project team.

The spokesperson added: “We welcome any questions about the planned investment and encourage attendees to share any local knowledge with the team so that we can better plan the works.

“As always, with any project of this nature we will do all we can to keep any disruption to a minimum where possible.”

A planning application has been submitted – for more details go to Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park Authority’s website and search for reference number PSC/2023/0007.
