Emergency planning event in Cove

Information to help households plan for emergencies will be available in Cove tomorrow.

It is the second informal event being organised by Cove and Kilcreggan Community Council – ironically the initial date had to be rearranged because of serious flooding earlier this month, volunteers were in Kilcreggan (below) last weekend instead.

Advice including emergency plans and being able to cope without power or water for 72 hours will be on offer, as part of an initiative started in the wake of Storm Arwen in 2021, which saw 80,000 households in Scotland without power.

The community council is focussing on major widespread weather events and aiming build a ‘know your neighbours’ network as well as a skills and assets register for volunteers.

They will be at the bus shelter opposite Cove Country Store tomorrow from 10am to 11.30am.

Anyone with photos of the October 7 floods in the area or their aftermath – thought to have been the worst for decades – is asked to email these to the community council so that a record can be built up of the flooding challenges.

The project has been funded by a grant for up to £1,150 from the National Centre for Resilience at the University of Glasgow).
