Baroque opener for Helensburgh Music Society

Helensburgh Music Society’s new season starts this weekend, with a varied evening of baroque works.

Scots Baroque’s programme, titled at The Crossroads, features 18th-century music from China, India, France, Italy, and Scotland’s Western Isles, as well as arrangements of spirituals by Samuel Coleridge Taylor and country dances by Ignatius Sancho.

László Rózsa (recorders), violinist Aaron McGregor, cellist Lucia Capellaro and Alex McCartney (theorbo and guitar) will perform from 7.30pm on Sunday.

Next up on November 26 will be the Tim Kliphuis Trio with a programme titled Brandenburg and the Elements – Bach re-imagined and   Kliphuis’s Ode to the Planet.

Pianist Ethan Loch will perform on January 28, followed by the Scholfield Clarke Duo on February 11 and the Resol String Quartet on March 10.

All concerts will be held in the Helensburgh and Lomond Civic Centre on East Clyde Street and a season ticket for all five concerts is £50.

Individual tickets are £15 for adults, £5 for students and £1 for under-18s.
