O’Hara seeks SNP nomination for new constituency

MP Brendan O’Hara has confirmed that he is seeking selection as the SNP’s candidate for the new Argyll, Bute and South Lochaber constituency.

He has been the Member of Parliament for Argyll and Bute since 2015 but that constituency will change following a boundaries review – which saw him objecting to the larger area saying it would be ‘unworkable’.

Brendan O’Hara: ‘A privilege’.

“It has been an honour and a privilege for me to have represented the people of this constituency since 2015,” he said.

“As a democratic party, quite rightly, my re-selection is not a foregone conclusion and others may wish to put themselves forward for nomination as well.

“I am hopeful however that my track record of being a hard-working, accessible local representative, coupled to the high profile role I have played as part of the SNP’s front bench team at Westminster over the past eight years, will encourage local party members to renew their faith in me.”

Earlier this month the Scottish Conservative and Unionist party announced that its candidate would be Amanda Hampsey, who was elected last year as a councillor for the Oban South and the Isles ward of Argyll and Bute Council.

A general election is due by December 2024 at the latest.
