Meeting hopes for vision of Cove and Kilcreggan’s future

A vision of Kilcreggan featuring a sandy beach, new stone quay, tidal swimming pool and sheltered housing has been drawn up ahead of a meeting to discuss the area’s future.

The Our Community project for Cove and Kilcreggan is holding a meeting on Saturday which organisers hope will start a conservation abut ides and needs of the two villages.

New groups will be formed to look at issues such as like energy, footpaths , sport, sustainability, arts , business, heritage,  marine protection and local food production.

And a design by community councillor Ali Mills has now been made available, after being drawn up in June.

It shows potential development on the east side of Kilcreggan’s 125 year-old pier – in contrast to Argyll and Bute Council’s plans for a large pontoon and breakwater to the west of the pier.

A spokesperson for the organisers said: ” It’s important to note the map is an artist’s impression, put together to generate discussion and to attempt to get those involved who don’t lean towards reading articles about the project.

“Nobody has adopted the drawing in any way – it’s simply some ideas from the survey results and community put in one place: no feasibility studies, no reality checks, no planning discussions.

“It’s a way to get people thinking about things. It’s not any one person’s view or vision.”

All local residents and business people are welcome at the two-hour event, which starts at 11am on Saturday in Cove Burgh Hall.

The Our Community project is being run by Cove and Kilcreggan Community Council and the Rosneath Peninsula West Community Development Trust, with £170,000 funding from the Scottish Government’s Strengthening Communities Programme through CEIS.
