Rahane housing plan wins approval

Planning permission has been granted for seven new homes to be built on the Rosneath Peninsula.

Robert MacIntyre’s proposal for the new houses at Rahane, with detached garages, has been given the go-ahead by Argyll and Bute Council planning officials without elected councillors being involved.

Two separate applications – one for two houses and one for five houses – were made for the site on land to the west and northwest of Greenlea Cottage.

Planning permission in principle was previously granted for the five-house site in 2012, and again in 2015.

Two objections were received to each of the applications, with one person submitting objections for both.

In a handling report on the five-house application, a council planning official said: “The application site is generally open in character with established tree and large shrub boundaries along the eastern and part of the southern site boundaries with existing adjacent residential curtilages. In addition, a small burn lined with trees and shrubs cross the site from west to east.

“It is considered that the information submitted allows a full enough assessment to demonstrate that the principle of development can be accommodated on this site without detriment to forestry, woodland and trees.

“However, information on any existing trees to be removed is not clear. This can be addressed by means of a condition requiring submission of a landscaping scheme accurately showing existing trees within the site and identifying any to be removed, and any compensatory tree planting.”
