Cove and Kilcreggan 10k places going fast

Places are going fast for the first-ever 10K event planned for Cove and Kilcreggan – and organisers are looking for helpers.

This morning (May 4) there were only four spaces remaining for the walk at the event, which is scheduled for Sunday June 4.

The walk will start at 1pm and the run at 2pm, with all runners being timed by Perfect Timing – to enter go to this website.

Volunteer marshals are still needed for the event – it would involve staying at a post on the route for two hours, and anyone who can help should message organisers via their Facebook page.

The run is for 17 year-olds and upwards and the minimum age for the walk is eight.

Entry for the run is £20 for an adult or £18 for Scottish Athletic Members and the walk is £15 for adults, £5 for children.

Registration is from 12 noon, with tea, coffee and cakes for sale.

Organisers  hope that in future the walk will be free – they have raised £2,300 from a curry ceilidh night, which was so successful they plan to make it an annual event, as well as receiving £5,000 from the National Lottery and £500 from Argyll Community Housing Association.

The start line will be at the former Craigrownie Church Hall, and the route will go along Shore Road towards Kilcreggan, turning onto first School Road, then Argyll Road,  and Barbour Road before joining the forest track.

The route then goes up the track until the 5km mark before turning back again, this time going via Fairfield Gardens and through fields behind the bowling club, then down Church Road to the starting point.

Parking will be on Shore Road and at Cove Sailing Club, but organisers are encouraging people to travel by bus if possible.
