Vintage Loch Long poster to open London auction

A vintage poster of Loch Long is expected to fetch up to £1,500 in an auction at The Mall Galleries in central London tomorrow.

Designed by landscape painter and book illustrator Ernest William Haslehust, the lithographic poster is being sold by auctioneers Lyon & Turnbull.

Haslehust studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in London and was a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal West of England Academy and Royal British Colonial Society of Artists.

He exhibited regularly at many venues including the Royal Academy in London and designed posters for the LNER and LMS railway companies.

His art was featured in many magazines of the day including the Illustrated London News and The Tatler.

It is the first lot in a special auction of 76 travel and vintage posters organised in partnership with vintage poster specialists Tomkinson Churcher.

All from the early 20th century, they feature  travel destinations from all around the world including (below) Arisaig, Loch Fyne, the Tay Bridge and Dunkeld.

The auction is also available online.
