Call for action against speeding drivers near Kilcreggan school

Police have said they will try to crack down on speeding drivers during the school run in Kilcreggan.

Argyll Road and School Road were highlighted at this week’s meeting of Cove and Kilcreggan Community Council, with one member saying drivers hardly ever observed the 20mph limit.

Sergeant Jerry King of Police Scotland said eh would ask for patrols with mobile speed cameras to be deployed in the area.

“We have actually procured a really good speed camera that we use on mobile patrols, which is really, really good and very accurate,” he said.

“Two of my officers who by default patrol this area have been tasked especially in the mornings.

“On Sunday mornings when people come into the base it happens quite a bit when people speed and also we have problems on Saturday afternoons.”

Sgt King said that on his way to the meeting he had stopped a local resident who drove at 40mph in a 30 limit, then stuck to the same speed when the limit changed to 40mph, and carried on at 40 when it when back to 30 – despite being followed by a marked police car throughout.

He said fixed speed cameras tended only to be installed in places where there was a history of serious accidents, but the new one in Cardross had had ‘a massive impact’.

The only crimes logged for the area since the start of the year were a drink driver who was arrested near Kilcreggan pier and a warning for possession of cannabis on Rosneath Road in Kilcreggan.

I should hope that they are very accurate when peoples driving licence’s are at stake. Does this mean that in other areas they might not be so accurate?
