Robert Burns celebration in Cove

Scots language expert Billy Kay and singer Robyn Stapleton will star at a celebration of Scotland’s national bard in Cove next week.

A tribute to Rabbie Burns is being held in Cove Burgh Hall on Friday January 20, and tickets are still available.

Billy Kay is a linguist and Scots language advocate, who has written a myriad of books on the subject and has spoken on Scottish culture at venues ranging from the Library of Congress in Washington DC to the Moscow Caledonian Club.

Robyn Stapleton studied at both the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the University of Limerick before going on to win the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year in 2014.

Accompanied by Neil Sutcliffe on both accordion and piano, she will sing through some of the life and works of Burns.

Tickets, including a glass of claret and Scottish cheese with oatcakes, are £15 and available on the hall website.

The evening will also include a bar and raffle.
