‘Positive news’ on Kilcreggan Medical Centre staffing

Locum GP cover has been secured at Kilcreggan Medical Centre ‘for the foreseeable future’, it has been announced.

The surgery has had to close on two occasions because there was no GP available following the departure of Dr Donal Murray in August – the post was not advertised until four months after he had resigned.

But today it was announced that NHS Highland had secured locum GPs to work alongside Dr Oliver Corbett, while there will also be additional nursing cover.

One nurse has left, but another has increased her hours and two new nurses will start clinics three days a week from January 4.

There will also be two advanced nurse practitioners who can provide patients with prescriptions.

An update on the medical centre’s Facebook page said recent months had been ‘a very unsettling and difficult time’ for staff and thanked patients for their understanding consideration.

“We are confident that the turbulent and unsettling months are behind us,” it added.

“A huge thank you  to all the team at the surgery, Dr Corbett, the reception team, the clinical team and all the NHS staff who work with us.

“They are the heart and soul of the practice and go out of their way to provide the best service they can with the resources we have.  You won’t find a more caring and dedicated team.”
