Cove and Kilcreggan residents urged to report speeding

Speeding drivers will be targeted by police if enough members of the public report them, a meeting heard this week.

And motorists who thoughtlessly soak pedestrians by driving through puddles could also be investigated.

Cove and Kilcreggan Community Council has frequently heard complaints of vehicles speeding through the area.

And at this week’s meeting a Police Scotland representative said it was vital that officers were given the registration number of vehicles when the public reported speeding incidents.

“With that we can identify the car and the driver, so we can certainly follow up on that inquiry,” he said.

“Exactly what we can do with one witness to speeding is difficult, but even a report that a car is speeding helps.

“If we get multiple reports it helps us build a little bit of intelligence up and then we will proactively go and deal with that.

“We will specifically target certain vehicles to deal with that.

“Don’t feel it’s not worth reporting matters to us, it might seem that not a lot appears to happen but that feeds back into our systems and we do look at that information and act on it when we can.”

He added that unnecessarily splashing through large puddles souls also be reported, as it could constitute careless driving.

He said police tried to patrol the Rosneath Peninsula as much as possible, and that speeding was targeted, but said that most evenings there were only four officers responsible for an area stretching from Arrochar to Cardross.

  1. All that’s needed is a Police presence. I’ve lived here for 15 years and have seen Police conducting traffic management, once. I do wonder what constitutes “as much as possible”.
Perhaps at the next CC meeting, the Police rep can bring along their historical duty rota to quantify.
