Timetable change follows Kilcreggan ferry cancellations

A temporary timetable has been brought in for the Kilcreggan ferry after a series of cancellations, with a replacement bus service being used last week.

Work at Gourock ferry terminal started on November 1 and is due to last for 12 weeks.

Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL) said last month that ‘land and marine side ground investigation works’ would be coordinated with timetables to minimise disruption.

But in the last week there have been daily announcements about potential cancellations, with a bus brought in last Tuesday to make the 50-mile trip between Kilcreggan and Gourock.

Tonight CalMac announced that ‘due to ongoing pier works at Gourock which restricts vessel manoeuvrability in the harbour area, making it unsafe for certain vessels to berth’ a temporary timetable would apply on Wednesday and Thursday.

CalMac says there will be a further announcement at midday on Friday – it is not clear whether the temporary timetable will apply that morning.

Mott MacDonald is currently carrying out detailed design work for the redevelopment of Gourock Ferry Terminal as part of a programme which could see £9m spent on ‘Kilcreggan Harbour’, as well as new ferries to serve Dunoon and Kilcreggan – the costs for which have doubled.

The work will establish design requirements to be included in tender documents, which will be issued to those interested in bidding for the development project.

CalMac and CMAL have been approached for comment.

Details of the timetable are on the CalMac website.
