Kilcreggan street closed again after flooding

School Road in Kilcreggan is impassable again, after being hit by serious flooding for the second time in a fortnight.

A section near a drain cover has collapsed, and other parts of the road have started to either lift or sink.

Police were called and Argyll & Bute Council staff attended – the road was finally closed just after midnight – for four hours until then residents were again having to warn traffic to avoid the section between Shore Road and Argyll Road.

Argyll and Bute Council repaired the large hole which appeared two weeks ago, but residers said at the time this was ‘a sticking plaster’ and the entire section of the road needed to be replaced.

Council staff refused to do this however, instead claiming the flooding was due to run-off from a resident’s garden.

The latest incident is uphill from that garden: “They’ve just made it even worse,” said a resident.

Stones have washed out of the section which was repaired last week after the drain cover was once again lifted by a fountain of flood water.

  1. “Runoff from a residents garden” – which was the result of runoff from Argyll Road due to a mix of insufficient/poorly maintained road drainage and poor planning decisions.
