Helensburgh volunteer welcomed at Holyrood

Community volunteer Shereen Costley was welcomed to the Scottish Parliament during a special visit recently by MSP Jackie Baillie.

Shereen (left) attended Holyrood along with her sister Lola as special guests of Ms Baillie whose Dumbarton constituency includes Shereen’s hometown of Helensburgh.

The sisters attended First Minister’s Questions in the debating chamber as well as lunch in the members’ restaurant before enjoying an organised tour of the building.

Ms Baillie said: “It was a pleasure to meet with Shereen and her sister Lola at the Scottish Parliament.

“I was really delighted they were able to take up my invitation because the parliament has been closed for a period during Covid.

“Shereen is an upstanding member of the Helensburgh community, an active member of Bethesda Community Church and a volunteer who gives her time to helpline Shout along with other good causes.

“Through our conversations about her voluntary work, it was interesting to hear of the experiences of some of the people she has supported through Shout, a crisis textline.

“I thank her for her ongoing work to assist people who are desperately in need.”
