MSP ‘will champion hydro as a sustainable power source’

MSP Jackie Baillie says she will champion hydro power after visiting Loch Sloy Hydro Power Station.

The Dumbarton constituency MSP was invited to the site beside Loch Lomond by SSE Renewables, which runs the power station.

She found out about the advantages of hydro power, post-war mechanical engineering that is still serving us well today andheard about plans to invest further in the power station.

Jackie Baillie said: “It was enlightening to visit the impressive hydro power station at Loch Sloy.

“Hydro power is a fantastic resource in a country like Scotland where there is not generally a shortage of water due to the rainfall we experience.

“The staff are clearly passionate about their jobs and who wouldn’t be with such stunning views to enjoy every day!

“I want to thank those at SSE Renewables for making this visit possible.

“I will use the knowledge I gained on the day to champion hydro as a sustainable energy source.

“It is vitally important that the Scottish Government invests in the likes of hydro power in order to increase both supply and opportunities for storage, therefore reducing prices as fuel bills are rising during the current cost of living crisis.”
