Classic cars and doors open at Cove Burgh Hall

A classic car event and open day are planned for Cove Burgh Hall this weekend.

The annual festival of cars, which was first held in 2020, will be bigger than ever this year, with dozens of historic vehicles travelling to the Rosneath Peninsula on Saturday (August 27).

And on Sunday there will be a doors open day in the burgh hall, with user groups and members of the board on hand to tell you more about how to get involved.

From 2-4pm locals will have the chance to find out more about clubs and societies which regularly use the community-owned hall, and maybe even have a go at some of the activities on offer.

All the doors in the building will be open, with demonstrations and presentations by by groups including the Peninsula Choir, SWI Cove and Kilcreggan, table tennis, line dancing, yoga, art, first responders and Scottish country dancing.

On Saturday classic and vintage cars will assemble between 10.30 and 11am at Kidston Park drive along Helensburgh seafront, then along the A814 to Garelochhead and round the B833, arriving at the burgh hall at around midday.

Classic cars will again be travelling to Cove this year

They will then return through the town to Hermitage Academy and back along the front on their drive to Cove. As usual most of the cars will be driven by members of the Scottish Western Thoroughbred Vehicle Club.

For the first time this year there will also be a ‘show and tell’ event at the hall beforehand, where anyone is welcome to bring along their prized motor.

The approximate timings for the day are: 10.30-11.30 show and tell modern cars; 12-2 the antiques and classics, 2-3pm Show and Tell part two.

Graham Bell, one of the volunteers organising the event said, “Cove Burgh Hall is the ideal Firth of Clyde location for a summer festival of cars.

“We are looking forward to a fun family day and hope to see a great mix of cars and people joining us at the end of the month. If you would like to help by volunteering on the day, please contact me by email.”

If you would like to display your car you must book a space ahead by emailing  cbhfestivalofcars2022@gmail.com;

The event is free and light refreshments, snacks, soup and sandwich lunches will be on sale throughout the day.
