Mapping the impact of road accidents across Helensburgh and Lomond

There were 30 accidents involving injuries or fatalities on the roads in Helensburgh and Lomond last year, newly-released figures have shown.

The total is ten more than in 2020, when tight lockdown restrictions saw a dramatic reduction in traffic, but lower than 2019, when there were 37 accidents involving injuries.

The figures, which have now been available by Transport Scotland following a Freedom of Information request, show that once again the A82 on Loch Lomondside has once again seen far more than its share of accidents – especially those involving deaths or serious injuries.

Over the three-year period 15 of the accidents involved motorbikes and three involved cyclists; only 14% did not involve one or more cars.

Two people died in road accidents across the area last year – both on the A82 near Luss, while there were eight accidents involving serious injury and 20 where the injuries were classed as slight.

Transport Scotland says the data for 2021 is provisional and final figures will be published in October.
